12 cm height
Original condition
The shape of this charming little seventeenth- century tankard is typical of Groningen. The tankard stands on a plain, flat ring and has a curved foot. The cylindrical body is completely straight and smooth. The shape of the foot is repeated in the lid, a plain, flat horizontal band with above it a curved border with a flat lid. The only ornament on the tankard is the antler- shaped thumb rest. The handle, on which the hinge of the lid is mounted, is completely plain with an elegant curl at the end. There are two empty escutcheons crowned with a helmet engraved on the round flat part of the lid.
