Original condition
Morellet created his own system, in which he incorporated the elements of chance and obstinacy to counteract any decision of artistic order on a random basis. From the mid-50s he was busy defining the image field as an infinite structure that extended beyond the boundaries of the image itself. He also placed painted grids on the canvas that he called "trames." Later, these were actual metal grids, sometimes mounted on canvas, sometimes free as in this example.
