Jan Schoonhoven
The Netherlands, 1973
29.5 x 29.5 "
Papier-mâché, cardboard and white paint on panel
Original condition
Schoonhoven’s reliefs are characterised by their monochrome - mostly white - tone and the serial, recurring nature of geometric patterns. It is the geometric patterns in particular that sets Schoonhoven apart within the NUL group. The abstract arrangement of the horizontal, the vertical and the diagonal appears to have its origins in the principles of Mondrian's Neoplasticism.
Provenance:
Galerie Mueller-Roth, Stuttgart. Collection Ellen Sauter, Badenweiler (acquired from afore mentioned presumably around 1978/79).
